John "Jack" Murdoch Wiler

December 15, 1928 — July 16, 2018

John (Jack) Murdoch Wiler of Sun City, SC passed away on July 16, 2018 at the age of 89.

Born in Philadelphia, PA, he is predeceased by his parents Edward and Alice Wiler, his brother, Edward Wiler, his first wife, Louise Glading Wiler and his oldest son, John Wiler, Jr. He attended St. Joseph’s Prep in Philadelphia and the Wharton School of the University of Pennsylvania, where he was a member of freshman rowing crew and the varsity 150 lb. football team. He was also a member of the Varsity Club and Beta Theta Pi fraternity.

Jack previously resided in Wenonah, NJ and was property manager for the Association of Retarded Citizens (ARC) in Gloucester County, NJ. He was a charter member and five-time president of the Wenonah Athletic Association, coached Wenonah senior girls’ basketball and softball for 17 years, and was the past president of Gloucester County Girls Softball League.

He and his wife, Eleanor Murphy Wiler, moved to Sun City in 1995. They were members of the Barrell Landing Club (first 100 residents). Jack was a charter member and first president of the Sun City Tennis Club, and past president of the Sun City Softball Club. He was also a former softball player, coach, and stat keeper in the Sun City Softball League. Jack loved living in Sun City, enjoyed playing golf and tennis, and his many friends.

He is survived by his wife, Eleanor (nee Craig); sons Michael Wiler (Eileen), Edward Wiler (Barbara); daughter, Mary Louise Wiler; stepchildren, John Murphy, Robert Murphy (Beth), Kenneth Murphy (Lori), and Kathleen Salvo (Nick); 10 grandchildren and 4 great-grandchildren.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions can be made to the Bluffton Library, 120 Palmetto Way, Bluffton, SC 29910. A private family ceremony will be held in New Jersey at a later date to be determined.
