John Louis Olesky, 81, of Bluffton, passed away on January 21, 2025. He was the husband of Jane Floder Olesky, with whom he shared almost 60 years of marriage. He was predeceased by his parents, John and Adele Olesky, and his sister and brother-in-law, Mary Jean and Tom Strawins.
John was a graduate of the University of Notre Dame and remained a strong supporter of the “Fighting Irish” throughout his life. He also graduated from the University of Pittsburgh, where he received his Masters degree in Business.
John was an avid bridge player for many years, competing in several tournaments and earning master points. He also was a staunch Pittsburgh Steelers fan and along with Jane, they cheered on their team every football season. John’s devotion to his Catholic faith was constant throughout his life. He was a communicant of St. Gregory the Great Catholic Church, where he attended Mass daily until his health started to decline. He was active in several ministries at St. Gregory’s, which included the Eucharistic Ministry to the Homebound, Christ Renews His Parish (CRHP), where he served as Sacristan for many years and the St. Vincent de Paul Society.
In addition to his beloved wife, Jane, he is survived by his son, Kenneth, of whom he was very proud and Ken’s wife, Lauren, whom John loved as a daughter. He is also survived by two brothers, Joseph and Thomas Olesky and their spouses Mary and Theresa.
A Funeral Mass for John will take place on Tuesday, February 4, 2025 at 10:30 AM at St. Gregory the Great Catholic Church followed by inurnment in the St. Gregory Columbarium.
A Celebration of Life event will be held at a future date.
