John C. Pocsik, 78, of Bluffton, South Carolina, passed away on July 9, 2026. Born in Wheeling, West Virginia, John was the son of John B. Pocsik and Marguerite O. Riesbeck. He graduated from St. John's High School in Bellaire, Ohio, where he developed a love for basketball that would remain a lifelong passion. He went on to play collegiate basketball at Baldwin-Wallace College in Berea, Ohio, before beginning his teaching career at Linsly Military Institute in Wheeling, WV. After moving from the Ohio Valley in 1971, he taught and coached at Kent State University School and later at Cuyahoga Falls High School. In 1980, John moved his family to Palm Beach Gardens, Florida, where he began a distinguished career with Pratt & Whitney. He dedicated 32 years to United Technologies before retiring, earning the respect of colleagues through his hard work, commitment, and professionalism. Above all, John was a devoted husband, father, and grandfather. He is survived by his beloved wife, Marianne Pocsik, originally of Wellsburg, West Virginia; his son, Brady Pocsik of Canton, Georgia; his daughter, Reagen Emlet of Chicago, Illinois; and his two cherished granddaughters, Everly and Adelyn Pocsik. John will be remembered for his love of family, his passion for golf, Ohio State and Cleveland sports teams, and the many lives he touched throughout his career and community. His legacy will live on in the memories of those who knew and loved him. A prayer service will be held at 3:00 pm on Monday, July 13, 2026, at Sauls Funeral Home in Bluffton, South Carolina.
