John M. Rickert

June 26, 1929 — November 27, 2021

John Michael Rickert passed away on Saturday November 27th 2021 while being cared for at Sprenger Health Care in Port Royal S.C.  He was born on June 26th 1929 in Appleton Wisconsin to the late Joseph and Laura (Bosman) Rickert.  He graduated Freedom High School in 1947 and also attended St. Norberts College, DePere WI.

John served in the U.S. Air Force during the Korean war and was stationed throughout Europe in his four years of service. Upon his return he was united in marriage with Joan E. McCarthy on September 3rd 1955 and they shared 66 loving and happy years together.

John was employed at Morning Glory Dairy in Green Bay and built a home next to Lambeau Field.  On game days, he and his wife would park cars in their lawn.

He then moved his family to Brookfield WI and worked for Ken-Com and Post Corporations.  In 1981 he accepted a job in Medina OH as general manager of Gowe Printing.  He retired in 1992.  In the year 2000 John and Joan moved to Bluffton SC /Sun City.  There he greatly enjoyed golfing and swimming and making many new friends. John was a member of the Sun City Lions Club.  He was awarded the highest honor with the Melvin Jones award for over 50 plus years of service to the Lions Club.  He was very passionate about giving his time and service to help the blind.  During his service he was a District Governor in Brookfield WI from 1978-1979.  He and his wife were fortunate enough to be able to travel throughout the United States/Canada and Japan.

John was a member of Saint Gregory The Great Catholic Church and was a man of deep and abiding faith, saying the Rosary everyday.

John was preceded in death by his parents, Brothers: Roy Rickert, Richard Rickert, Robert Rickert and Rev. William Rickert.  Daughter Mary Jo.  Sisters-in-law Bea Rickert, Dorothy Rickert, Viola Rickert, Kaye Rickert, Norma Rickert, nephew Mark Rickert, Tim Rickert, niece Judy Edlebeck.

John is survived by his wife Joan Rickert, daughter Jackie Woods (Steve Woods) son James Rickert, granddaughter Emily Cover, grandson Terry D. Woods, Also, brothers Joseph (Pat) Rickert, and Tom Rickert.

A visitation will be held at Sauls Funeral Home, 90 Simmonsville Rd, Bluffton, SC on December 9th, 2021 from 5:00 pm-7:00 pm. Mass Services will be held at Saint Gregory the Great, Bluffton, SC on December 10th at 10:30 am with graveside service to be held immediately after mass at the church. Due to COVID, there will not be a reception after the mass.

The family would like to thank Crescent Hospice for its extensive and loving care provided to John during the last year.
