John Spann Williams

John Spann Williams, 83, died Tuesday, December 2, 2014 at Coastal Carolina Medical Center in Hardeeville, SC. Mr. Williams was born in Allendale, SC on October 09, 1931 to the late William Greene Williams and Telie Chassereau Williams. He was employed by South Carolina Electric and Gas until 1972 when he moved to Butte, Montana. He was the owner of Williams Interstate Exxon and Wrecker and was a graduate of Grays High School Class of 1950. He married his high school sweetheart, Betty Lee Smith of Beaufort on August 12, 1950. He was a U.S. Army Veteran of Korea; volunteer firefighter and served as assistant chief of Ridgeland Fire Dept. He moved back to the Lowcountry in 1977 when he went to work for Palmetto Electric Cooperative. He was a family man and loved his wife and children. He served the Lord and taught his children to also serve the Lord. He loved to sing in church. He was a Prankster and loved to pull jokes on Mike Simmons. He enjoyed the outdoors on Montana, snow mobiling and taking his family sledding. He also enjoyed hunting, fishing, shrimping, crabbing, golfing and gardening. He is survived by his wife, Betty Smith Williams of Ridgeland, SC; sons, Glen Williams (Kathy) of Beaufort, SC; Dennis Keith Williams (Donna) of Ridgeland, SC; daughters, Sharon Williams Exley (Carter) of Guyton, GA; Rita Renee Anderson of Ridgeland, SC; brothers, Rudolph Smith (Betty) of Ridgeland, SC; sisters, Peggy Smith (Donald) of Grays, SC; Audrey Roberts (Wallace) of Ridgeland, SC; Debbie Ulmer of Hampton, SC; grandchildren, Carrie William Catterton (Rod); Glen Paul Williams, Charles J. LaFleur, Jr.; Jimmie Lee Anderson (Mandy); Justin Craig LaFleur (Amy); Amanda Williams Hilton; Jessica Renee Criss; Betty Lynn Kendricks; Harley D. Williams; sixteen great grandchildren and a host of neices and nephews. He was preceded in death by his daughter, Brenda Williams Wintersteen; brothers, Charlie Shield Williams; Julian Williams and Julius Smith; sisters, Lila Smith and Jenny Rowe and great grandson, John Henry Criss.Funeral services will be held at 11:00 am on Friday, December 5, 2015 at Faith Baptist Church with burial in the Ridgeland Cemetery. A visitation will be held from 6 until 8 pm, Thursday, December 04, 2014 at Sauls Funeral Home, 310 W. Adams Avenue, Ridgeland, SC. Sauls Funeral Home is assisting the family with their arrangements.
