John Hango, Sr.

August 9, 1924 — January 28, 2021

John Hango, Sr. passed away on January 27, 2021. He was born in Woodbridge, New Jersey on August 9, 1924 to Joseph Hango and Clara Toth Hango.  He was the youngest of 11 siblings. He joined the army in World War II and served in Italy and France before being wounded for which he was awarded the Purple Heart. Upon leaving the military, he met a beautiful nurse after having his appendix removed. She insisted that he was too young for her, but he refused to relent. He married Mildred Sophia Pickers on July 23, 1949 and they went on to have 48 loving years together before she preceded him to heaven.

Besides Mildred, John loved his children, John (Jack) Jr. and Carol Hango Aita and her husband, Dr. Jeff Aita, and his grandchildren Justin Aita, Katie Houpt and her husband Hop, and John Aita and his wife Anne and his 6 great grandchildren AJ, Joey, Paxton, Cooper, Ellie and Oliver.

John's favorite thing to do was play golf which he loved almost as much as a good scotch. He was a loving husband, father, grandfather and great grandfather.  He was a war hero, soft spoken mentor, a loyal friend, a family man and a kind soul. He always had a smile on his face and never met a stranger. Those who knew him loved him. He always said, "Life is what you make it" and he certainly made a wonderful one.  He will be missed by his friends, family and golf buddies but we take comfort that he is once again in the embrace of his beloved wife.

A graveside service will be held at 10:00 am, Thursday, March 18, 2021 at Beaufort National Cemetery.
