John Michael Thomas

John Michael Thomas passed away on September 14, 2024, after a brief illness at the Beaufort Memorial Hospital.

Mike was born in Ridgeland, SC to the late Leroy Robert Thomas and Geneva Victoria Sauls. He graduated from the University of South Carolina in 1969 with a Bachelor of Science degree in Business Administration. He loved his beloved Gamecocks and held a 57-year membership in the Gamecock Club. Mike also served many years as the director of the Jasper County Gamecock Club.

Mike served his country in the United States Army in the early 1970s. Following his military service, he became a Certified Public Account opening his own CPA firm in Ridgeland, SC. He joined Palmetto Electric Cooperative as the Vice President of Finance until his retirement.

Mike was very involved in the community, serving as a founding member of the Jasper County Rotary Club, The Episcopal Church In Okatie, where he served as Treasurer and Usher for the last 10 years. He was also on the board of directors of First National Bank and Lowcountry Council of Governments. He took great pride in being a founding member of the “Wednesday Night Supper Club”.

In addition to his parents, Mike was preceded in death by his wife, Jean McTeer Thomas and is survived by his 2 daughters Amy Wilson (Mike) of Alpharetta, GA and Erin Harmon (Greg) of Davidson, NC; his brothers Bob Thomas of Beaufort, SC, Philip Thomas of Ridgeland, SC; his sister Brenda T. Reiser of Beaufort, SC.

Mike was most proud of his four grandchildren Michael Thomas Wilson, Sarah McTeer Harmon, Elizabeth Jean Wilson and John Cothran Harmon.

The family will receive friends from 4:00 until 6:00 pm on Sunday, September 15, 2024, at Sauls Funeral Home, 310 W. Adams St., Ridgeland with a Funeral Service at 11:00 am, Monday September 16, 2024, at the Episcopal Church in Okatie. Burial will be in the Grahamville Cemetery.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorial donations be made to The Episcopal Church in Okatie.
