It is with deep sorrow, we announce the passing of José “Mr. Joe” Gíl Maldonado (September 1, 1939 – June 5, 2025) of Hampton, SC.
Joe was born in Coamo, Puerto Rico to the late Simplisio Maldonado and Maria Torres. Joe moved to Florida after graduating high school at Escuela Superior Luis Muñoz Marín in 1958 and retired as a machinist in 2006. He later relocated to Hampton, SC in 2024 to enjoy the remainder of his days.
Lovingly known as "Mr. Joe," he is survived by his children: Maria Maldonado (Hampton, SC), José Maldonado II (Lubbock, TX), Edward Green (Fort Myers, FL), and grandchildren: José III, Autumn, Joshua, Victoria, Míosotis, Amelia, Hallie, and Hayden. He was preceded in death by his wife Sylvia and grandson Ethan. He leaves behind 11 great-grandchildren.
Proud of his children's service in the US Marine Corps, his self-taught English, Mormon faith, and travels across the USA, Joe lived a life full of adventure and love. He enjoyed spending time at the Senior Center, playing Bingo, and in his Mickey Mouse-themed bedroom. He once happily declared that he had finally found his “home” in Hampton.
He will be profoundly missed by all.
