Joseph Geller, affectionately known as Joe to his family and friends, was born in Brooklyn, New York, on August 25, 1943. At the age of 82, after a brief but courageous battle with cancer, Joe passed away peacefully at his home in Hardeeville, South Carolina, on July 9, 2026.
Growing up in Queens and Brooklyn, Joe enjoyed playing baseball and football. As the years went on, he remained an avid sports fan, especially of baseball, football, and basketball. In more recent years, he enjoyed watching classic films on Turner Classic Movies and British Sherlock Holmes productions.
Joe graduated from Queens College before earning his law degree, magna cum laude, from the Benjamin N. Cardozo School of Law. His professional accomplishments included teaching middle school math in “Hell's Kitchen”, New York, and later practicing law alongside his father at Geller and Geller in Brooklyn and Queens. Of all his achievements, however, the one he cherished most was raising his daughter, Rebecca. His greatest joy was watching her grow from childhood into a successful occupational hand therapy specialist.
Joe was predeceased by his parents, Benjamin and Sarah Geller; his sister, Janet Geller Edelman; his childhood and lifelong friend, Joseph Cardella; and his long-term friend and business partner, Victor Celli.
He is survived by his beloved wife, Sally Grieco Geller; his daughter, Rebecca Geller; his mother-in-law, Betty Grieco; his stepsons, Robert Belon and Christopher Belon; his daughter-in-law, Jamie Belon; his brother, Stuart Geller; his brothers-in-law, Frank and Donald Grieco; and his sister-in-law, Diane Grieco.
In accordance with Joe's wishes, he will be privately cremated. Rather than a formal service, Joe hoped he would be remembered through the love, memories, and moments he shared with those who knew him.
The family sincerely appreciates your thoughts and prayers and asks that you honor Joe in your own way. In lieu of flowers, the family kindly requests that donations be made to the ASPCA or the American Cancer Society in Joe's honor.
