Joseph Laprade Harwell Sr.

Joseph LaPrade Harwell died peacefully at his home in Ridgeland, SC. He was 99. He graduated from the US Naval Academy and served as Captain in the US Merchant Marines.Captain Harwell was born September 21, 1908 in Brunswick, GA. The eldest son of the late William LaPrade and Josephine Torras Harwell. He was predeceased in death by his wife of many years, Dorothy Seymour Harwell, daughter, Dorothy Jane Righton and a brother, Marion.In March 1943 his cargo ship was torpedoed and sunk in the North Atlantic.
