Joseph Gariti, Iii

Joseph "Joe" Gariti III, 81, passed away on August 5, 2023, in Bluffton, SC. He was born in Sewickley, PA, to Joseph Gariti Jr. and Anne Larnish Gariti. Joe is survived by his loving wife, Dorothy (Dottie) Barnhart Gariti, their sons Joseph Gariti IV and Christopher S. Gariti, and his wife, Janet Ewing Gariti; his daughter-in-law. Alison K. Gariti; grandsons, Nicholas and Joshua Gariti; his brother, Dr. Peter Gariti and his wife, Katherine; his two nephews, Matthew and Sean Gariti. He was preceded in death by his parents and his son, Scott P. Gariti. Joe graduated from Washington and Jefferson College and Duquesne University Law School. After graduating from law school, he served as Captain in the US Army during the Vietnam War. Joe went on to have an illustrious legal career as the Director of Real Estate at the Urban Redevelopment Authority of Pittsburgh, a position he held for several years prior to becoming the General Counsel. As General Counsel for over 25 years, he was highly regarded in his field and made significant contributions to Pittsburgh’s redevelopment efforts. Joe was a member of the Knights of Columbus and the Sun City Lions Club. He had a passion for golf, tennis, and the Steelers. A ceremony to celebrate Joe's life will be held at St. Gregory the Great Catholic Church in Bluffton, SC, on Monday, August 14, 2023, at 10:30 AM. In lieu of flowers, the family kindly requests donations be made to Friends of Caroline, a nonprofit organization dedicated to providing compassionate care to individuals and families facing life-limiting illness. Joe will be deeply missed by his family, friends, and all those whose lives he touched throughout his remarkable journey.
