Joseph Elihu Smith Jr.

Joseph Elihu Smith Jr., 76 of Ridgeland, SC passed away on Saturday, March 15, 2014 in the St. Joseph's Hospital in Savannah, GA. He was born in Ridgeland, SC on October 15, 1937 to the late J.E. and Annette Crosby Smith Sr. He served his country in the US Army and received an honorable discharge. Joe was an active member of St. Anthony's Catholic Church in Ridgeland for over 50 years; member of the Jasper County Historical Society and a member of the Knights of Columbus. He was retired from Smith Ford Motor Company and Bankers Trust. After retirement he was employed by Nimmer Turf. Joe was an avid hunter and fisherman. He had attended Wofford College and Clemson University where he played the trumpet with the Tiger Band. He is survived by his precious wife of 50 years, Patricia Hamburger Smith; two children, Joseph E. Smith (Jay) III and his wife, Rhonda of Bluffton and Eleanor Wall and her husband, Hal of Ridgeland; four grandchildren, Hampton, Olivia and Harrison Wall all of Ridgeland, and Callie Smith of Bluffton; and one sister, Joan Smith Nimmer and her husband, Freddie of Ridgeland, SC. The funeral mass will be celebrated at 11:00 am, Wednesday, March 19, 2014 at St. Anthony's Catholic Church, Ridgeland, SC with burial in the Ridgeland Cemetery. The family will receive friends beginning at 10:00 am until the hour of the mass. Memorial donations may be made in memory of Joe Smith to St. Anthony's Catholic Church, P.O.
