Joy Hatfield Cargill

Joy Hatfield Cargill, age 76, of Hilton Head Island, SC died peacefully under hospice care on Saturday, February 4, 2017 at Hilton Head Hospital. Mrs. Cargill was born on October 4, 1940 in Savannah, GA, the daughter of the late Joel Hatfield and Mildred Crabb Ambos. She was a former employee of Hargray Communications and Travel Host Magazine. She was an Episcopalian. She enjoyed her family, reading, tennis, the beach, shopping, and lending a helping hand to others. In addition to her parents, Mrs. Cargill was preceded in death by her stepfather, Henry F. “A” Ambos, Sr. and her late husband, father of her children, Jimmie Cargill. She was the devoted partner of Jim Grant of Hilton Head Island, SC; loving and devoted mother to Cindy C. Brown (Tom) of Bluffton, SC, Kristin Elizabeth Cargill of Hilton Head Island, SC, and Millie B. Larson (Larry) of Leaburg, OR. She is also survived by her brother, Andy Ambos of Savannah, GA; sister, Janet Blackstone (Michael) of Jacksonville, FL; half-sister, Donna Whitfield (Neal) of Savannah, GA; several other beloved family members and her beloved dog, Jake. In lieu of flowers, remembrances may be made to Tidewater Hospice or the Hilton Head Humane Society. A celebration of life will be held 1:00 pm—5:00 pm, Saturday, February 11, 2017 at the Bluffton Oyster Company, 63 Wharf St, Bluffton, SC 29910.
