Julia Christine Dennis Hanshew

Mrs. Julia Christine Dennis Hanshew, 93, of North Augusta, passed away Wednesday, Aug. 15, 2012.She was the widow of the late Rev. Clarence L. Hanshew Jr., former director of missions for Savannah River Baptist Association of churches in Beaufort and Jasper counties. They lived for many years in Ridgeland, SC. Mrs. Hanshew had lived since 2005 at Hammond House, an assisted living facility in North Augusta. She was born Dec. 12, 1918, in Germantown, KY, daughter of the late Clay Dennis and Florence Galbraith Dennis. The Hanshews had served many years as missionaries appointed by the Home Mission Board of the Southern Baptist Convention. Mrs. Hanshew served as clerk for Savannah River Association for more than 20 years. She was a member of Faith Baptist Church in Ridgeland and in recent years was a member of Bel-Ridge Baptist Church in North Augusta, which her late husband helped start and led as pastor for many years.She is survived by her sons, Paul Hanshew Sr., of North Augusta, and David Hanshew of Chapin, and a daughter, Mrs. Christie H. Creswell of Cary, NC; eight grandchildren, five great-grandchildren and three great-great-grandchildren. Graveside services will be held at 11 a.m., Saturday, Aug. 18, 2012, at the cemetery of Gillisonville Baptist Church, Gillisonville, SC.
