Karen Maureen Leibel

It is with great sadness that the family of Karen Maureen Leibel announces her passing on Thursday April 9, 2020 in her Sun City Hilton Head home.  She was born on August 20, 1948 in Cincinnati, Ohio to Jacob and Margaret (Burbacher) Richter.  She will be lovingly remembered by her husband of 50 years, Ron, and her daughters: Colleen (Chris) Monahan, Cheri (Jeff) Tuerck, and Shannon (George) Horney.  Karen's memory will be treasured by her 7 grandchildren: Allison, Kylie, Braden, Jared, Jaxon, Mallory, and Aubrey; by her brothers: George "Bill" (Donna) and Timothy Richter; as well as a large family of in-laws, nieces, nephews, extended family, and also dear friends far and near.  Karen will be remembered as one who lifted all of us with her smile, energy, and sense of humor.  She enjoyed friendly competition ranging from family game nights, to her golfing buddies, to her weekly games of mah-jongg and canasta.  She carried that incredible spirit unflinchingly throughout her final struggles.  A celebration of Karen's life will be held in both Bluffton, SC and Cincinnati, OH at future dates.  In lieu of flowers, donations can be made in Karen's name to either Hospice Care of the Lowcountry (hospicecarelc.org) or to Hamilton County Ohio Special Olympics (specialolympics-hc.org).
