Katherine (Doyle) Clark passed away on December 5, 2023 at the age of 93. She lived in Burlington, NJ most of her life until a more recent move to South Carolina.
Katherine graduated from Cathedral High School in Trenton, NJ and began her career working for her uncle at M. J. Doyle in Burlington. During her working years, she spent time at Metropolitan Insurance and St. Paul’s Rectory, both in Burlington; she was Secretary of the Board of Education for the Beverly School where she met her lifelong friend Betty Carslake. She then held the same position at the Lumberton School; she worked for American Casein Co., the Golf Farm, and then finished her career as a bookkeeper for her oldest son’s business, T. R. Clark, Inc.
Katherine was happily married to her husband Fred for more than forty years until his death. She started a library in her home for the neighborhood that coordinated with the county library, and helped to get the bookmobile to the area. The neighborhood kids also took an interest in some of her other projects including making her own ketchup and making root beer, which gave all the kids a turn at the capping machine. She and Fred were always active and enjoyed tennis, golf, square dancing, and playing cards with a group of close friends. They also loved traveling, and along with those close friends took several trips including Hawaii, Spain, Italy, Switzerland, and Morocco. After her husband’s passing, Katherine continued to travel and had visited over twenty countries. In her 70’s and 80’s, she started working on a fun bucket list. She began with hang gliding; she went as passenger for a long motorcycle ride; she took a sailing course and sailed a small craft; she went for a flight in a World War bi-plane, and drove in a race car at the Pocono Raceway, among other things. Katherine liked to laugh and was outgoing, making friends easily. She loved reading, playing the piano, playing cards, and visiting friends and family.
Katherine was preceded in death by her parents, Thomas and Esther Doyle, her husband Fred T. Clark, her sister Helen Little, and her son Frank Clark. She will be missed by her children Tom (Sandy) Clark in Florida, Coleen Clark in Vermont, and Jon (Lori) in South Carolina. She is also survived by her grandson Matt (Charlotte) Wargo in Vermont, her great-grandsons Isaac and Noah Wargo, and her nieces Michele (Mike) Cuccinotta, and Danette Little. She also leaves a brother-in-law and sister-in-law and other nieces and nephews.
