Katie Lee Procter Williams

Mrs. Katie Lee Procter Williams, 80, passed away on October 28, 2012 at the Hilton Head Medical Center, Hilton Head Island, SC. Mrs. Williams was born in Union County, SC, daughter of the late Roy and Viola Farr Procter. She attended Union County schools finishing high school at Kelly-Pinckney in the class of 1949. She received a RN degree from the South Carolina Baptist Hospital School of Nursing in 1952.Prior to marriage she worked in Columbia for Dr. Hall and did private duty nursing. She also worked in Union at the Wallace-Thomson Hospital after marriage.She married Robert A. Williams of Columbia, SC in 1953 and she and Mr. Williams lived in Alexandria, VA, Wilmington, DE, Lawrence, KS, Birmingham, AL and Hollywood, FL before settling in the Atlanta (Decatur), GA area. After raising her children she worked at the DeKalb Medical Center, Decatur, GA.Mrs. Williams was active at St. Stephen Lutheran Church in Decatur, GA as a member and chairperson of the LCW and also served on several committees. After retiring to Hilton Head in 1992 Mrs. Williams loved flower gardening, bicycling, walking and observing wildlife. She also attended St. Andrew By the Sea Methodist Church in Hilton Head.Mrs. Williams is survived by her husband of over 58 years, Robert (Bob) A. Williams; daughter, Carol (Jerry) Anson of Newnan, GA; son, Alan P. Williams of Melbourne, FL; son, Robert P. (Penny) Williams of Alpharetta, GA; granddaughters, Kacie A. Dickinson, Camily Williams and Caitlin P. Neal and several great grandchildren.Also surviving are sisters, Daisy Little of Union, SC, Wilhelmena Littlejohn of Jonesville, SC and Anne Carpenter of Fairview, NC and several nieces and nephews. In addition to her parents she was predeceased by a sister, Bertha Fowler of Union, SC; Vera Samples of Jonesville, SC and brothers, Arthur M. Procter of Aiken, SC and Clifford Proctor of Union County, SC.The family requests memorial donations be made in memory of Katie Williams to SCBH Nurses Alumnae Association, Stephanie S. Gerrald, 2125 Rolling Hills Road, Columbia, SC 29210-6135.The family, friends, neighbors and associates of Katie are invited to a Commemoration of Life service at 2:00 pm, November 18, 2012 followed by a reception in the Celebration Center at St. Andrew By The Sea United Methodist Church, 20 Pope Avenue, Hilton Head.
