Kay Horn, 84, was born in Danbury, CT, January 21, 1939, to her late parents, William, and Helen Miller. Kay went home peacefully to be with the Lord, while at her daughter, Suzi’s home in Powdersville, SC, on July 3, 2023. Kay was baptized in 1939, at St. Joseph’s R.C. Church, in Danbury, CT, and lived her Catholic faith right to her new beginning.
First and foremost, Kay’s life was dedicated to her family. It started with her doting husband of 63 years, Ray Horn, Sr. Over the course of 41 years, they had 7 children: Ray, Jr. (Susan), Suzi Nelson (Mike), Matt Horn, Michael Horn (Sodeli), Katie Young and 2 preemies who died before coming home, Ellen and Bernard. There are 9 grandchildren: Ryan & Michael Horn, Paul, Mark & David Nelson, Maddie & Brayden Young, and Savi & Mia Horn and 4 great-grandchildren: Landon Sparano & Thayer Horn and Rowan & Liam Horn. Kay was also the big sister to the late Bill Miller and the “little sister” to the late Annie Burns.
Although Kay’s work was primarily in the home, she did find time to work outside of the home as well. While in Danbury, CT, she was a teacher’s aide, seemingly following her two oldest children from school to school. While living in Narragansett, RI, she worked as a CNA, caring for others in their homes.
To know Kay was to have an encounter, unknowingly, with a very loving God. Her faith was her foundation. Wherever she lived, she was active in church ministry. While a member of St. Joseph’s parish in Danbury, CT, she, and Ray became a team couple presenting Marriage Encounter weekends throughout Connecticut and New York. After moving to Narragansett, RI, they joined Christ the King parish. Kay founded and led a women’s prayer group and was active in the Right-to-Life movement. Her last parish home was as a member of St. Gregory the Great, in Bluffton, SC, where she enjoyed her time with the CHIRP community.
Kay never met a stranger or a baby that stood a chance of getting away without being adored. She had an uncanny knack for putting people at ease and her smile often brightened another’s day. Kay was well known for 2 phrases that she uttered most days these last few years. She would command, “don’t ever get old.” And she would promise, “you’ll miss me when I’m gone.”
A funeral Mass will be held on Saturday, August 12th at 10:30 a.m. at St. Gregory the Great R.C. Church, In Bluffton, SC. The Mass will be live-streamed and can be found at WWW.SGG.CC
