Kenton "Kent" Boyd England, M.D., 63, of Bluffton, SC died unexpectedly in his sleep on Monday, August 17th at his residence. He battled leukemia and several other serious illnesses over the past few years. Kent was born on April 15th, 1952 in Roaring Spring, PA to the late Dr. Kenneth B. England and Marie Ruggles England. He was the sixth of eight children.
Kent was a distinguished graduate of an accelerated medical program, earning both his B.S. from Penn State and his M.D. from Thomas Jefferson University in just 5 years at age 22. In each of his three years of residency, he was awarded Resident of the Year. Kent then joined his father in private practice until moving to Hilton Head in 1984 as the Director of Emergency Medicine at Hilton Head Hospital. He then continued in private practice on Hilton Head for 26 years.
During his years as a physician, he felt privileged to share his talents, skills, and his Christian faith with those in need. He loved the science of medicine, his patients, and his role in helping others. He advocated for a high quality of patient care and, as many patients will attest, spent as much time with them as they needed.
He loved his family and cherished raising his 3 boys on Hilton Head with his former wife, Gail England. He was proud to become a grandfather twice.
Kent had a passion for the game of golf, which he learned from his father and passed down to his three sons. He was a man of many interests, which included skiing, cycling, photography, film, and general tinkering. A voracious reader, he had an unquenchable thirst for knowledge and was a lifelong learner. He had a remarkably curious mind and loved to teach others what he learned. He embraced new technology and innovations, many calling him "Dr. Gadget".
He is survived by his sons Christopher England and wife Leah of Bluffton, SC, Jordan England and wife Anne of Jacksonville, FL, Matthew England of Jacksonville, FL, and two grandchildren, Thomas and Elizabeth.
He is also survived by two brothers Carl England of Fanning Springs, FL, and William England of Roaring Spring, PA, three sisters Susie Hoover of Martinsburg, PA, Patricia England of Roaring Spring, PA, and Gina Hershberger of Coventry, CT.
He is preceded in death by two brothers, Kenneth B. England and Craig L. England.
