LaRue Wilkerson Sauls, 87, widow of Jack Sauls, died Friday, October 31, 2014 under the care of Hospice of Charleston in Mt. Pleasant, SC.
Ms. Sauls was born on August 1, 1927 in Hickory Grove, SC, the daughter of the late Morgan Jefferson Wilkerson and Sarah Lillian Goforth Wilkerson and step-mother, Annie Mae Stephenson Wilkerson.
She graduated from Winthrop College in 1948 with a bachelor's degree in English with a music minor. While raising her family she taught piano lessons for many years. She later was a second grade school teacher at Thomas Heyward academy until she retired. After retirement she worked as a senior aid in Jasper County for several years.
She was a member of the Ridgeland Baptist Church and Senior Adult Ladies Sunday School Class. She played piano for the St. Paul's united Methodist church worship service each Sunday.
Ms. Sauls is survived by her son, John T. Sauls of Irmo, SC; daughters, Susan Johnson of Richmond, VA, Stephanie Sons (Woody) of Mt. Pleasant, SC, and Kaye Scoggins (Conrad) of Rock Hill, SC; grandchildren, Ryan Johnson, Amy Crenshaw, Kris Williams, and Sarah Scoggins; great-grandchildren, Blake Williams, Bradley Williams, Memphis Johnson, Seth Johnson, Morgan Crenshaw, and Avery Crenshaw. She was preceded in death by her brother, Leon Wilkerson and her sister, Opal Dickerson.
The family will be receiving friends from 1:00 - 2:00 p.m., Monday, November 3, 2014 at the Ridgeland Baptist Church social hall followed by the funeral service at 2:00 p.m. in the sanctuary. The burial will be private.
