Laval Malphrus, 87, passed away December 27, 2009 at Ralph H. Johnson Veterans Medical Center in Charleston, SC.He was born on September 2, 1922 in Ridgeland, SC to the late Raymond and Aline Mock Malphrus. He was a retired Machinist Tool and Die Maker; a member of Great Swamp Baptist Church; a life member of American Legion; He was a lifetime member of Milford Masonic Lodge #165. Veterans of Foreign Wars; worked in the Civilian Conservation Corps; a US Navy Veteran of WWII and Korea. He was a Boatswains Mate Second Class and served on the battleship USS Missouri during the Korean Conflict. He is survived by two sons, Raymond F. (Stephanie) Malphrus of Livermore, CA; Thomas (Dawn) Malphrus of Fenton, Michigan; two daughters, Ruth (John) Malphrus of Tampa, FL; Wendy (Dale) Woodham of Kenly, NC; two brothers, Royce Malphrus and J. D. (Judy) Roberts, both of Ridgeland, SC; two sisters, Virginia Byles of Ridgeland, SC and Vera C. Floyd of Tillman, SC; four grandchildren and two great grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his wife, Esther Hill Malphrus.Funeral services will be held at 11:00 am, Friday, January 1, 2010 at Sauls Funeral Home Chapel, 310 W. Adams Ave., Ridgeland, SC.
