Lee Finney Kaufmann Carter, age 75, of Bluffton, SC and formerly Lumberton, NJ, passed away peacefully on March 20, 2023 from ongoing health issues after suffering a stroke in 2021. Lee was born on August 16, 1947 to Charles and Frances (Bradley) Finney. She was a devoted wife, mother, grandmother, sister, aunt, daughter, and friend. Lee worked for 26 years at Burlington County (NJ) Special Services School District where she provided services for thousands of the county’s most vulnerable children. She was always active in her churches in NJ and SC and was strong in her faith and love for the Lord. Her favorite things to do were to sing, entertain people and make them laugh, and most of all spend time socializing and being with her many friends and family across the country. She is predeceased by her parents and her first husband, Jim Kaufmann. Lee is survived by her husband of more than 36 years, Bob Carter, four sons, seven grandchildren who loved and adored their “Dee Dee,” as well as two sisters and a brother, and many sisters- and brothers-in-law. Celebration of life services will be held in both South Carolina and New Jersey on a future date. A Celebration of Life Service will be held at 1:00 p.m. on Saturday, April 15 at Freedom of Life Church (13 Kitties Landing Rd, Bluffton, SC 29910). Pastor Ken Cox of Freedom Life will be leading the service. Note: Entrance to the church is around the back of the building (the church shares the building with Alarm, Fire and Security Co.).
