Leila C Malphrus

Leila Carroll Malphrus of Ridgeland passed away peacefully at her home on August 6, 2019.   Leila was born on October 16, 1928 in Olar, SC and was the  daughter of the late Listie Sue Carroll Beaird and Garvin Carroll.  On March 16, 1946 she married her grammar school sweetheart Bobby D. Malphrus.  They were faithfully devoted to each other for over 72 years.

Leila graduated from Ridgeland High School in 1947 and always looked forward to reunions with her classmates. She was a loving mother to two sons and spent much of her time when they were young volunteering and helping out in their classrooms.  Once they were in school, she attended Paris Beauty School in Savannah in 1955 and opened the RanDale Beauty Shop in Ridgeland soon after.  She successfully operated the beauty shop for over 35 years while managing her home and caring for her husband, children and grandchildren.  She was an active member of the Ridgeland Advent Christian Church for over 70 years where she served for many years in the Women’s Home and Foreign Mission society.

Leila loved gardening and flowers of any kind.  She was instrumental in the fundraising and creation of the flower garden at the Ridgeland Nursing Home.  She loved butterflies and watching song birds at her ever full birdfeeders.  She and Bobby spent much of their spare time traveling to the Smoky Mountains and to bluegrass festivals throughout the southeast.  Her greatest joy however, was her family, and she was never happier than when all were together at her home on Great Swamp Road.

Leila was predeceased by her parents and her husband and is survived by two sons, Bobby Dale Malphrus and Randy (Debra Q.) Malphrus, three grandchildren, Robyn (Johnny) Wood, Brad (Crystal) Malphrus, and Marie (Chris) Buck, 10 great grandchildren, a sister Connie Harvey Way and a host of nieces and nephews.

The family will receive friends from 6:00 pm until 8:00 pm, Thursday, August 8, 2019 at Sauls Funeral Home, 310 W. Adams St., Ridgeland.  Funeral services will be held at 3:00 pm, Friday, August 9, 2019 at Sauls Funeral Home with burial to follow in Ridgeland Cemetery.
