Lena L. Maroska Cooler

Lena L Maroska Cooler, widow of the late Edward T. Cooler, Sr. died at her home after a brief illness on Sunday, October 24 2021.

She was born October 1, 1920 in Hampton, SC, the daughter of the late James Henry Lynes and May Snider Lynes.

She graduated from Ridgeland High School and attended Lander College.  She retired from the U. S. Department of Agriculture after 34 years of service.  She was a faithful member of the Ridgeland Baptist Church and lived a long and active life.

She is survived by two sons, George S. Maroska of Charleston SC and John E. Maroska (Carol) of Clover, SC, and three stepsons, Charles ‘de Solliers Cooler (Asta) of White Plains, New York, Eddie Cooler and Rusty (Oregon) Cooler of Ridgeland, SC.

Lena is predeceased by her twin sister, Eloise L. Wall.  Also, by her deceased brothers, James C. Lynes, Joseph W. “Bill” Lynes, and Ralph H. Lynes, and her grandson, George Stephen Maroska, Jr.

Lena so loved her grandchildren and that feeling was shared among her grands, Catherine M. Neel (John), Elizabeth Maroska Love (Andrew) and George Stephen Maroska, Jr.  (deceased).   Her great grandchildren referred to her as Grandma Lena and they loved visiting her.  Her great grands are Grace Neel, Virginia Neel, Rosemary Neel, William “Will” Clayton Love and Asher Lynes Love.

Additionally, her stepchildren were a big part of her life.  They are Windy Stitch, Tommy Cooler, Hillary Cooler Taylor (Charles), Yates Cooler (Lindsey), Rachel Cooler (deceased).  Her step great grandchildren are Maggie Stith, OB Stith, Caroline Taylor, Ward Taylor, Russell Cooler and Emory Leigh Cooler.

Visitation will be at 1 p.m. on Friday, October 29, 2021, at Ridgeland Baptist Church with the funeral service to begin at 2 p.m. immediately following the visitation.   Burial will follow at the Grahamville Cemetery.   Sauls Funeral Home will handle Mrs. Cooler’s service arrangements.   In lieu of flowers you are asked to make donations to GHC Hospice, 7130 Hodgeson Memorial Drive, Savannah, GA 31406

The family would like to give special thanks to the many neighbors and friends who have been so kind and helpful to Lena, specifically her daily caregiver, Carolyn Deigler, her friends Pat Scoggins, Valerie Taylor, Judy O’Keefe, Pam Tolbert and all her Sunday School class members.   She loved all of you.

Additionally, the family wishes to acknowledge the excellent staff from GHC Hospice for their compassionate, loving and consistent care over the past year.  We especially thank Angela Davis, Hospice Nurse for her love and care. We are forever grateful.
