“Bucky” Leonard Raymond Hill Jr., 65, of Bluffton, SC passed away on April 15th, 2018 at MUSC in Charleston, SC. He was born in Greenville, SC on October 24th, 1952. Bucky is preceded in death by his father and mother, Leonard and Mary Jane Childress Hill, and niece Sandi Sparks Sitton. He is survived by his wife Sheryl Bonnette Hill, his sons Aaron and Alex Hill, his daughter-in-law Elena Bulanova, his sister Mary Lynn Hill Fortner, and many nieces, nephews and cousins. Bucky and Sheryl were married on December 7th, 1975 at Double Brach Baptist Church in Orangeburg, SC. He earned his Associate’s degree in Golf Course Technology from Horry Georgetown Technical College. His skill and passion for the game of golf lead him to flourish in his career as a golf course superintendent for 40 years at prestigious clubs in Wilkesboro, NC, Aiken, Bluffton, and Hilton Head Island, SC. He was an active member of the Church of The Cross, often ushering on Sundays. Bucky was an avid sports fan who loved all things Carolina Gamecocks, and he also loved to play the blues. For some reason he didn’t often brag that, as a young man, he and his harmonica once joined the legendary Muddy Waters in an impromptu jam (and has the Polaroid to prove it). Bucky was a no-nonsense man who would always give it to you straight, but also a southern gentleman, and a true romantic with a heart of gold. He loved and lived for his wife, sons, family, and close knit community of friends and neighbors. His kindness and genuine nature attracted the company of many dear friends. Anyone whose lives Bucky has touched are invited to the Church of The Cross, at 110 Calhoun St., Bluffton, SC 29910, to grieve the loss and celebrate the life of their fun-loving friend at 1:00 pm, Wednesday, April 25, 2018.
