Lillie Maude (Crosby) Terry

April 11, 1928 — March 8, 2019

Lillie Maude Crosby Terry, 90, passed away on March 8, 2019 at her home in Hardeeville, SC.  Born in Grays, SC on April 11, 1928 to the late Miles Barney Crosby and Florence Shipes Crosby, she was married for 33 years to the late Manning Woodrow Terry. Upon her marriage, they moved to Hardeeville in 1946 and she lived there until her passing.  She is survived by her three children: Allan Woodrow Terry (Karla) of Fort Mill, SC, Judy T. Nettles (Randolph) of Hardeeville, and Troy Miles Terry (Melissa) of Clemson, SC.  She also leaves behind ten beloved grandchildren:  Melissa T. Smyly, Allan W. Terry, Jr. (Allyn Anne), Jacob Miles Terry, Will Patrick Terry, Brandon Lamar Nettles, Teresa G. Nettles, Miles Andrew Terry, Brooks Patric Terry (Jenny), Caroline Reid Terry, and Ana Lucia Terry.  Mrs. Terry celebrated her seven great-grandchildren, Lauren S. Dantzler (K.J.), Savannah Rose Terry, Wyatt Mason Terry, Channing Wood Terry, Chase Martin Terry, Lillie Ann Terry, and Graham Clayton Terry.

Mrs. Terry cherished her extended family.  She was predeceased by four brothers; Marvin Crosby, Clyde Crosby, Lloyd Crosby, and Bernard Crosby; and six sisters Beatrice C. Deloach, Lorraine C. Eckley, Ella Mae W. Smith, Sally W. Smith, Margerite W. Smith, and Linda Crosby.  She is survived by sisters Mildred W. Shipes, Agnes C. Peeples (Edgar), Ellen C. Wilson (Harry), and Lydia C. Breland (Bobby).  She has 55 nieces and nephews and more than 120 great nieces and nephews.

The lifelong resident of Jasper County was a former restaurant manager, manufacturing line seamstress, and retired as the founding, full-time Librarian of the Hardeeville Community Library.  The accomplished seamstress taught sewing and quilting classes for the Clemson University Extension Service as well as the Hardeeville Senior Citizens Center.  She leaves behind a legacy of handwork including crocheted blankets, quilts, and her signature “Nana Blankets” which she called drag-arounds, but were gifts of choice to hundreds of newborn babies not just within her family but to many friends and community members.  Her handwork is enjoyed across the United States from South Carolina, to Texas and California, and as far away as Switzerland.
