Lois May Carroll

January 14, 1927 — January 16, 2019

Lois May Digman, age 92 of Bluffton SC died Wednesday, January 16, 2019 at Bloom at Bluffton.

Mrs. Carroll was born on January 14, 1927 in St. Louis, MO.  She was the daughter of Henry Digman and Ida May Liggett Digman.  She was a graduate of Central College in Fayette, MO.  She met her husband, Cornelius Franklin Carroll, Jr. at college.  They eventually moved to Cleveland, OH to teach and start a family.

Lois was a physical education and health teacher at Brooklyn Heights High School in Parma, OH.   She was a hockey mom, a lover of the arts serving as a volunteer for the Cleveland theater and orchestra and a fierce competitive tennis player in city leagues.  Upon retirement, Lois discovered a new passion – fabric art.   She spent over 20 years as a fabric artist and quilter eventually teaching others in specialized classes.   She was commissioned by leading members of the Cleveland arts circles for her contemporary clothing pieces, jewelry and accessories.

Her work was published and selected pieces were part of touring national and international arts & crafts exhibits.

Lois and her husband loved the outdoors.  She often hunted and fished and enjoyed archery and was the first female archer to shoot the first compound bow.   Her Methodist faith and family were priority for Lois.  The arts, travel, good chocolate and any movie with Paul Newman were well known by all.

Mrs. Carroll was preceded in death by her husband, C.F. Carroll and her sister, Janet.  She is survived by sons, (Hank) Henry L. Carroll and wife, Lisa of Bluffton, SC and (Neil) Cornelius Franklin Carroll, III of Weaverville, NC; grandchildren Jason Carroll of Atlanta, GA, Ema Carroll of Bluffton SC,  Zak Carroll of Savannah GA, Zoe Carroll of Wilmington NC and Zane Carroll of Weaverville, NC.   She will be missed by her creative fabric group – an intimate group of girlfriends who shared a travelling diary to inspire and stimulate their creativity and long time friendships to each other no matter where they resided.   A private celebration of the life of both Lois and her husband, C.F. will take place in Bluffton on March 9th.  The family is grateful for the support and care provided by Bloom at Bluffton, Dr. Deborah Chambers and Hospice Care of the Lowcountry.
