Louise Cole Maglione

Louise Cole Maglione, age 88, most recently of Hilton Head, SC and formerly of Bedford, MA died Wednesday, December 20, 2017 at Life Care Center of Hilton Head. Mrs. Maglione was born on February 9, 1929 in Marlboro, MA, the daughter of the late Charles and Elise Cole. She attended Northeastern University and later married Mr. James Maglione. She was a loving homemaker and participated in all of her children’s activities, including as a Cub Scout leader and school classroom volunteer. She later became a librarian, as well as a science and natural history educator. She worked for the Massachusetts Audubon Society for more than 20 years, and was a member of St. Paul’s Episcopal Church in Bedford. Mrs. Maglione was the first woman to be elected to the Board of Selectman in Bedford, where she served 3 terms including one as Chairman. Mrs. Maglione was selected as Bedford’s 6th citizen-of-the-year in 1984. Upon her retirement, she was active in the Rotary Club of Bedford. Mrs. Maglione was preceded in death by her loving husband of 50 years, James Maglione. She is survived by her sons, Stephen Maglione (Kathryn) and Philip Maglione (Judy); sister, Suzanne Cole Finn; and grandchildren, Alexander, Elizabeth, James, and Elise Maglione. A memorial service is planned for 10 am on Saturday, April 21, 2018 at Saint Paul’s Episcopal Church, 100 Pine Hill rd., Bedford, MA. Contributions in Louise’s memory may be made to Mass Audubon, 208 South Great Road, Lincoln, MA 01773 for the benefit of Drumlin Farm Wildlife Sanctuary.
