Lyle Ellis (Ike) Fenlason

Lyle Ellis (Ike) Fenlason Lyle Ellis Fenlason died on March 22nd at Victory House in Walterboro, South Carolina. He was born in North Fairfield, Maine on August 29, 1920, the son of Roy and Nina Fenlason. He was the third oldest of seven children and grew up in and around the Good Will Farm/Home/School where his father was groundskeeper for many years. He graduated from Good Will High School, and worked as a mechanic before entering the Army Air Corps in the weeks immediately after Pearl Harbor. In the service, he was a crew chief on C47, troop and cargo carrying aircraft, serving in the North Africa, Sicilian and Italian campaigns. At one point his unit was sent on detached duty to northeastern India, and he finished his overseas duty at the beginning of the invasion of southern France, where he also served as an interpreter along with other military responsibilities. In 1945 he married Marion Keast (died 1983) and they had two children Bruce and Irene. After several years as mechanic, truck driver and sales representative in the automotive industry, he and Earl Savage opened Kennebec Auto Parts in Madison, Maine in 1962. Lyle worked there first as manager then owner until the mid 1980's. The store that he founded still exists and is operated by his daughter. Always interested in sports and his children's activities, Lyle retired to a life of travel, golf, square-dancing and cribbage. He and Pat Cook, the beloved partner of his later life, often traveled between Central Maine and the Hilton Head area of South Carolina where they subsequently settled in 2011. He is survived by his son and family, Bruce and Judy Fenlason and their daughter Sara, his daughter Irene, and his beloved partner Pat Cook. His memorial service will take place later this spring at the Hinckley Chapel, and his interment will be at his wife's side in the Hinckley Cemetery. In lieu of flowers contributions in his name can be made to the Somerset Humane Society or to Good-Will Hinckley.
