Margaret Rose (Kurrle) Mitchell, 81, passed away in Bluffton, SC on November 15, 2024. Born in Detroit, MI on January 4, 1943, Margaret also called Long Island, NY, Oxford, MI, Manteo, NC, and Simpsonville, SC home. She worked in a pediatrician’s office and was a devoted wife, mother, grandmother, and friend to many. A fierce advocate for the underdog, she was always helping anyone in need. She loved her family, her neighbors, and her Lutheran Church communities of Mt. Calvary Lutheran, Trinity Lutheran, Good Shepard Lutheran, Grace Lutheran Church By the Sea and Holy Spirit Lutheran.
She met the love of her life, her husband Cliff Mitchell, at age 19 through a mutual friend. Cliff and Margaret enjoyed homemaking, gardening, bike rides, long walks, and watching the sun go down at their home. Margaret and Cliff were together until his untimely passing in 2007.
Margaret was a great hostess and took much pleasure in orchestrating extended family gatherings complete with large meals, sledding, and cross country skiing. She loved to travel and her family has wonderful memories of trips to northern Michigan, New York, Prince Edward Island, Connecticut, Toronto, Florida, and the Caribbean.
Margaret and Cliff kicked off their retirement by building a custom home on Roanoke Island in North Carolina’s Outer Banks. Actively involved in finishing their home, her family has great memories building fences and accessories, and installing landscaping, all while managing to go kayaking before sunset.
Margaret embarked on another chapter when she moved to Simpsonville, SC in 2011. Another home to update and personalize. Her family has many fun memories exploring the Upstate of South Carolina and the mountains of North Carolina, including the Columbia Zoo, Biltmore Estate, Lake Lure, Chimney Rock, and Hendersonville.
In 2021, Margaret moved to Okatie, SC to enjoy the Low Country and Hilton Head area. Her son, Paul, remembers the day she left Simpsonville when she stated, “I’m not looking back because I am ready for one more adventure”. She spent many hours with family and friends, often walking the beach on Hunting Island.
She is survived by her son, Paul Mitchell (Julie), her daughter, Patty Kugler (David), and grandchildren Hannah Mitchell, Sarah Mitchell, Oliver Kugler, Cliffton Kugler, and Claire Kugler. Also, beloved nieces and nephews, James Fuqua (Patty), Beth Corteville (Mark), Linda Knox (Eric), Tom LaFleur (Chrissy), Jeff LaFleur (Vanessa), Susan Kurrle, Allen Kurrle, brothers-in-law James Fuqua and Mike LaFleur, sister-in-law Peggy Mitchell, Karen Mitchell and Peyton Dignam.
