Margaret "Peggy" E. Bayer

Margaret Elizabeth “Peggy” Bayer, 79, of Bluffton, South Carolina, passed away on September 22, 2026, surrounded by the love of her family.

Born in Brooklyn, New York, Peggy’s life took her from New York to New Jersey and Pennsylvania before she and her husband made Bluffton, South Carolina, their home 12 years ago.

A graduate of St. John’s University, Peggy devoted much of her life to working with children. She began her career as an elementary school teacher before becoming the director of a daycare and preschool. Her career perfectly reflected the joy she found in children and her special way of connecting with them. A natural storyteller, Peggy could captivate a room with her stories, bringing them to life with warmth, humor, and a personality that was uniquely her own. Those fortunate enough to know her will undoubtedly have a favorite “Peggy story” of their own.

Peggy found great joy in cooking and was an amazing cook and baker who took pleasure in preparing meals for others. Some of the happiest moments were spent gathered around her table, where sharing good food brought people together.

She also had a passion for travel, enjoying the chance to discover new places, cultures, and cuisines. Her journeys brought her great happiness and many cherished memories.

Peggy and Kurt were married in July 1969 and shared almost 57 wonderful years of marriage. Kurt passed away in April 2026, just five months before Peggy. After sharing nearly six decades of life, perhaps they simply were not meant to be apart for long. The loss of both in such a short time is deeply felt, but there is comfort in knowing that the remarkable life they built and the memories they created will endure.

Peggy is survived by her daughter, Cindy, and her husband, Ian, of New Providence, New Jersey; her two grandchildren, Brandon and Kayla; her sister, Barbara, and her husband, Tony, of Mooresville, North Carolina; her brother, Ray, and his wife, Mary Grace, of Maine; and many nieces and nephews.

She was predeceased by her husband, Kurt; her sister, Carol; and her parents, Margaret and Raymond.

Arrangements will be handled by Sauls Funeral Home in Bluffton, South Carolina, on Monday, September 28, 2026. Peggy will be laid to rest alongside Kurt at Beaufort National Cemetery in Beaufort, South Carolina.
