Maria Elena Jackson, 65, of Bluffton, SC passed away Tuesday, February 21, 2023 at the Medical University of South Carolina, Charleston.
Maria was born July 3, 1957 in Harlingen, TX to Marcelino Cordero and Celia Garcia Cordero. In 1975, she briefly served in the Women’s Army Corps (W.A.C.) for 2.5 years before its integration into the U.S. Army. Maria then served an additional eight years in the U.S. Army’s Airborne Unit at Ft. Bragg, NC as part of the Base Commanders Administration, where she received an Honorable Discharge. In 1988, following her time of service, she gained her Associate’s Degree as a Paralegal and began working with the U.S. Department of Labor, helping to enforce and regulate laws for over 25 years as an Investigator and a Regional Manager in Brunswick, GA, Birmingham, AL and San Jose, CA. Maria enjoyed traveling to places such as Germany, Switzerland, Hawaii, Mexico and all over the United States, as well as making precious memories with family and friends.
Maria, a devoted Catholic, is survived by her husband of 47 years, Andrew J. Jackson, Sr.; daughter, Andrea Jackson-Spain (Quinten Spain) of Bluffton; her son, Andrew J. Jackson, Jr. (Andrea R. Wynn-Jackson) of Brunswick, GA; five grandchildren, Jackson Spain, Dylan Spain, and Alexander Spain; Caleb Jackson and Samuel Jackson; her brother, Jesus Cordero (Yvonne Cordero) and their children, Dakota, Shane, Catelyn, and Rosalinda.
A funeral service with military honors will be held at 1:00 pm, Wednesday, March 15, 2023 at Sauls Funeral Home, 90 Simmonsville Rd., Bluffton. The family will receive friends beginning at 12:00 noon until the time of the service at the funeral home.
