Marian Horton Broome, 90, passed away on January 19, 2018, at Brookdale Senior Living at Hilton Head Island, South Carolina. She was born on September 11, 1927, in Pageland, South Carolina to Reece Leonard Horton and Bess Gregory Horton. Marian grew up in Pageland, South Carolina, and graduated from Pageland Centralized High School in 1944. Marian married Boyd Douglas Broome in 1946 in Pageland. They were happily married for 55 years. Marian was a member of First Baptist Church of Bluffton and was a Life Member of the Order of the Eastern Star. She dedicated herself to raising her five children and supporting her husband with the family construction business as bookkeeper. She enjoyed sewing, her piano, reading, crossword puzzles and spending time with her family. Her family and friends will treasure the crocheted "Afghans" (too many to count) that she created and shared. Marian is survived by her son Robert Winfield Broome of Bluffton, South Carolina; her son, Douglas Horton Broome (Betsy) of Hilton Head Island, South Carolina; her daughter, Melinda "Betty" Lee of Hilton Head Island; her daughter, Kathy Broome Schwalbe (Herman) of Goose Creek, South Carolina; and, her son, Ronald Leonard Broome of Hilton Head Island, South Carolina; her seven grandchildren, nine great-grandchildren; nieces and nephews and other relatives. Marian was preceded in death by her parents Reece and Bess, her husband, Douglas, and her brothers and sisters. A graveside service will be held at 2:00 pm, Sunday, January 28, 2018 at Bluffton Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorial donations be made to the Order of the Eastern Star - Edgar Mole Chapter #239, P.O. Box 112, Bluffton, South Carolina, or to The Turner Syndrome Society of the United States - www.turnersyndrome.org.
