Marie Brennan, née Forrest, most recently of Bluffton, South Carolina passed away on July 24, 2023. She was ninety years old in March. Marie emigrated from Northern Ireland in 1953 and became a U.S. citizen to mark the Bicentennial in 1976. She was first employed at St. Claire’s Hospital in Manhattan, New York. She later worked as a dental hygienist in Matawan, New Jersey. She was a long-time devoted parishioner of St. Joseph’s Church in Keyport, New Jersey where she organized numerous fund-raising activities for the parish, and was a religious education instructor for disabled children of the parish.
Marie was born in Limavady, County Derry, Northern Ireland to James and Rose Forrest (née McGrotty). She married George Brennan (who predeceased her in 2018) in 1955.
Marie was one of thirteen children. She was the beloved mother of six children, Anne Marie (Michael) Hobson of Wayne, PA, Eileen (John, deceased 2016) Cameron of Augusta, GA, George (Patricia) of Westlake Village, CA, Deirdre (James) McCarthy of Bluffton, SC, Kathleen (James) Kren of Atlanta, GA, and Christopher (Mary) of Mamaroneck, NY. She was the adored grandmother of eighteen grandchildren, and she leaves six great grandchildren, including three great granddaughters, each with the middle name “Marie.”
No public service is anticipated. Marie will be inurned alongside her husband George at Arlington National Cemetery in the near future.
