Marilyn Coffman

January 9, 1934 — November 11, 2016

Marilyn Coffman (Meadows) passed away peacefully on November 11, 2016 at the age of 82 in Bluffton, South Carolina. She was born in 1934 on January 9 in Ottumwa, Iowa. She is survived by her loving husband of 60 years, Bob Coffman, and three children, Susan Miller, Chris Coffman, & Julie Forton, as well as 7 grandchildren and 2 great grandsons. She was predeceased by two children, Jan Coffman and Scott Coffman. A memorial service will be held on November 23, 2016 at 4:00 pm at the Kingdom Hall of Jehovah’s Witnesses: 1171 Coleman Loop, Hardeeville, SC 29927. After graduating from Ottumwa Heights College in 1954, Marilyn began teaching elementary school in North English, Iowa, where she met her future husband, Bob Coffman. They married on July 15, 1956 and lived in South English, Iowa before moving to Arkansas and then back to Cedar Rapids, Iowa. While in Cedar Rapids, a life-changing event altered the course of Marilyn’s life as an educator, wife, and mother. She began a deep study of the Bible with Jehovah’s Witnesses and was baptized in the spring of 1963. Her focus was then to share her knowledge with not only her husband and children, who joined her as faithful servants of Jehovah, but to anyone who would listen to her ministry. She took great joy in teaching countless people about God’s purpose for the earth and its inhabitants. Her belief in a resurrection was a fundamental teaching that gave her the great hope and confidence that she would once again see her beloved children, Jan and Scott, her sister, brothers, and parents, and many other friends and relatives too numerous to number. Marilyn and her family also lived in Ft. Madison and Iowa City, Iowa; Maitland, Florida; and finally Bluffton, South Carolina. Through the years of raising her beautiful family and beyond, she enjoyed and shared her gift of music, cooking and hospitality, and love for Jehovah and his ministry. Until the day of her resurrection, she will be deeply missed. If you are interested in finding out more about Marilyn’s beliefs, please visit JW.org.
