Marilyn Heck Oesterling, affectionately known as "Dutchie" to her family and friends and the widow of James Tury Oesterling, peacefully passed away at the age of 92 on Tuesday, May 7, 2024, at Caroline’s Cottage in Ridgeland, SC.
Marilyn was born on August 5, 1931, in Natrona Heights, Pennsylvania, the beloved daughter of the late John and Olive Heck. Marilyn and her husband relocated from Richfield, Ohio, to South Carolina in 1999. While in Ohio, Marilyn was as an administrative assistant in the Revere School Local District. In South Carolina, she was an active member and secretary of the Coast Guard Auxiliary Flotilla 10-01. Additionally, Marilyn valued her volunteer work at Hilton Head Hospital, both as a Swiftie in Same-Day Surgery and as a member of the Auxiliary Board from 2014 to 2023. She was a faithful member of The New Bluffton Worship congregation.
Marilyn found fulfillment in various activities, including walking with her Moss Creek Friends, participating in her Book Club Meetings, and volunteering at the Heyward House Museum and Welcome Center. Above all, she held a deep love for her family and friends.
Marilyn is survived by her two daughters, Tina (Chuck) Webb-Browning of Bluffton, SC, and Jill Nevins of Roaming Shores, OH; three grandchildren, Chelsey Webb, Joe (Isis) Webb, and Erin Lampman; five great-grandchildren; as well as her brother, John "Jay" Francis Heck III, and his wife, Janet, of Lincoln City, Oregon. Her sister, Nina Ann Chandler, preceded her in death.
A Memorial Service celebrating Marilyn's life will be held at 2:00 pm on Friday, June 14, 2024, at The New Bluffton Worship, located at 39 Persimmon St. Building #203, Bluffton.
