After a long and full life, Marilyn Ann (Young) Bishop Tarasuk passed away peacefully on April 3, 2026. She was born on December 17, 1931, to Etta Margaret (Miller) and Wilfred B Young, in Hartford, Connecticut. Marilyn grew up on the University of Connecticut campus where her father was Dean of Agriculture. She graduated UCONN in Education and married Raymond Donald Bishop. Together they raised their children in South Windsor CT. Marilyn taught Home Economics for many years and was a leader in her field. In the South Windsor CT schools she expanded curriculum to include child development, consumer education, and sex education. She also included boys in previously all-female programming. Marilyn held various leadership roles including president of the Connecticut Home Economics Association and was named “Connecticut Home Economics Teacher of the Year” at the height of her professional career. Later in life Marilyn married Paul Elarion Tarasuk and they settled in Bluffton, South Carolina, to enjoy retirement together. Marilyn and Paul moved to The Seabrook retirement community on Hilton Head Island SC in 2016.

Marilyn was a devoted wife and mother, a true friend, a committed volunteer, and a tireless force of nature. Marilyn loved gardening, antiques, and playing bridge. She was a talented homemaker and a gracious hostess. Marilyn was a loyal supporter of UCONN Husky athletics. She was active in the Church of the Cross, Bluffton SC, community and as well as a member of PEO International. Marilyn will be missed by the many who knew and loved her.

Marilyn is survived by her daughters, Deborah Bishop (Paul Evans) and Bishop (Leah Collins), and Paul Tarasuk’s children, Paul Douglas Tarasuk (Janet Tarasuk) and Anne Mary Johnson, and their grandchildren, Hannah Evans, Ellery and Cameron Tarasuk, and Kayla and Aubrey Johnson. Marilyn is also survived by her brother, Wilfred B Young, Jr. Marilyn was predeceased by her daughter, Holly Margaret Bishop, her sister, Marna Jean Thoma, and her husbands, Raymond D Bishop and Paul E Tarasuk.

The family extends heartfelt appreciation for the care provided by The Seabrook Wellness team, The Seabrook Fraser team, and the Friends of Caroline Hospice and Caroline’s Cottage teams. Burial will be in Connecticut. Services will be private. Donations in Marilyn’s memory may be made to: Friends of Caroline Hospice, 329 Friends Lane, Ridgeland SC 29936.
