His parents, Herbert and Marilynn Sharples, also survive him, along with his sister, Lynn Sharples, and her husband, Anthony Kooney. Mark was a cherished uncle to several nieces and nephews.

Mark was known for his sharp intellect and quick wit, and he was fortunate to be surrounded by many special people and lifelong friends including Dennis and William Joker, Kristin and Mike Young, as well as Jacob McConnell and his family. He was deeply loved by Laura's family, including his in-laws Linda Veselsky Miller and Earl Lord, brother-in-law Jeff Lord, and the entire Veselsky clan.

His dry wit, sarcasm, and captivating stories will be deeply missed by all who knew him. Mark's legacy of service, friendship, and humor will continue to live on in the hearts of those who loved him.

A military burial will be held at 12:30 pm, Tuesday, August 27, 2024 at the Great Lakes National Cemetery in Holly, Michigan.
