Martha Hughes CookRidgeland, SCMartha June Hughes Cook, age 84, widow of William Francis Cook, died at her home on Monday, May 9, 2011.She was born June 12, 1926 in Hampton, SC to the late Francis Steadman Hughes and Cornelia Elizabeth Langford. She was a member of the Ridgeland Baptist Church. A Warren Candler Cadet of Nursing graduate, she was a Registered Nurse at the Ridgeland Hospital for many years. She loved fishing, gardening, and until very recently, delivering the morning newspaper to her children. She will always be remembered for her inspirational poetry, uncanny ability to make others laugh and her generous and gentle spirit. She is survived by two sons, Chris (Kathy) Cook; Barry (Pam) Cook; one daughter, Carol (Graham) Horton, all of Ridgeland, SC; seven grandchildren, Mychele Rhodes, Kristen Johnson, Trey Hayes, Casi Murdaugh, Calla Daley, Kenzie Cook and Taylor Horton; five great grandchildren, Kyle, Zackery and Trevor Murdaugh and Emma and Reagan Rhodes. She was preceded in death by her son, William F. Cook, Jr.; three brothers, Steadman, Mack and Bill Hughes; two sisters, Josephine Conaty and Frances Bennett.Funeral services will be held at 2:00 pm, Thursday, May 12, 2011 at the Ridgeland Baptist Church with burial in the Ridgeland Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 1:00 pm until the hour of service at the church.
