Marvin “Cookie” Orrel, Jr, age 79, passed away peacefully on July 2, 2023, in Savannah, Georgia, surrounded by his loved ones. He was a native of Savannah and a Vietnam War veteran serving in the US Navy aboard the USS Midway. Marvin was an avid boater who loved fishing, crabbing, sharing stories, and spending time with his family. He was a warrior who exemplified strength, determination, and a willpower to overcome any obstacles he faced. Marvin had a unique sense of humor and never met a stranger. He is preceded in death by his father, Marvin Sr., mother, Lillian, and sister, Jeanette Stiles. He is survived by his wife of 36 years, Penny; children, Marvin III (Jeri), Marvin “Marco” IV (Melanie), and Megan Orrel-Plazak (Samuel); Grandson, Cody (Chelsea); four great-grandchildren; his dearest friends, Tommy Scarboro (Glenda) and Jeff Bell (Paula); Siblings, Stormsie Jenkins, Vivian Orrel-Ryals (Jerome), Mindy Lamaak (Orville), Charles Orrel (Kathy), and Marion Orrel; 35 nieces and nephews; beloved service dog, Copper; and cat, Tod. A viewing will be held July 10, 2023, at 11 A. M. at Sauls Funeral Home in Bluffton, South Carolina. A graveside service will follow at 1:00 P.M. at Beaufort National Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, please send donations to the Carlyle Fraser Center at Emory University Hospital.
