Mary Austin

Mary Austin passed away peacefully on April 12, 2024 surrounded by her family. A native of Strokestown, Co. Roscommon, Ireland, Mary emigrated to America at the age of 18 and spent most of her adult life in NY. She met and married the love of her life in the 1960s. She and her husband Patrick shared 56 happily married years together building a life and family together. Mary worked in a variety of positions before becoming a full-time homemaker and raising her five children. Her kindness, generosity and beautiful smile touched so many throughout her life. One of her great joys was to help others, and that was a role she filled for so many providing in-home care to the elderly, and volunteering at Oznam Nursing Home in Bayside, Queens. A lifelong Mets fan, they did her the honor of winning their game on the night she passed. She fully retired and relocated to sunny South Carolina in 2019 where she resided with her husband Patrick. Mary is predeceased by her parents Patrick and Molly, her brothers Eamon and Martin, and her infant sister Bridget. She is survived by her husband Patrick, children Patricia, Kevin, Theresa (Danny), Eileen (Brian) and Stephen, her grandchildren Sean, Brian, Conor (Erica), Shane, Austin, Cara and Fiona, and great grandchildren Lucas and Julia. She is also survived by her siblings Liam (Mary), Joseph (Marie), John (MaryBridget), Seamus (Anna), Sarah (Colin), Ann (Willie), Carmel (Vince), Geraldine (John), Teresa (Gerry), Bernadette (Ray), Fidelma (Tony) and Dolores.

The family will receive friends beginning at 10:00 am, Friday, April 19, 2024 at Saint Gregory the Great Catholic Church until the hour of the service at 10:30 am on Friday, April 19, 2024 at Saint Gregory the Great.  Burial will follow at Lowcountry Memorial Gardens, 90 Simmonsville Rd., Bluffton, SC  29910.
