Mary Katherine Baffa

Mary Katherine Baffa, 87, passed away Friday, December 29, 2023 at the Fraser Health Center in Hilton Head Island, South Carolina.

Mary Katherine was born July 19, 1936 in Cherryville, NC to the late Edward Davis George and Kathleen Scisom George.  She was raised in Cherryville, but lived much her life in Baltimore, Maryland, in Weston, Massachusetts, and in Weston, Connecticut.   While living in Connecticut, she spent two years living in Tokyo, Japan, and ultimately in 1997 retired to Calawassie Island, South Carolina and later to Sun City, Hilton Head, South Carolina.  In her youth, she studied ballet at Peabody Conservatory, and throughout her life was an avid artist, specializing in oils in her earlier years, sumiye painting, and watercolors when she retired to South Carolina.

Mary Katherine was a loving mother of four and grandmother of six.  She is survived by her daughter, Susan Davis (Skip) of Potomac, MD; and her sons, John “JB” Baffa, Jr. (Leslie) of Laguna Beach, CA, Michael Baffa (Karen) of Norwalk, CT, and David Baffa, Esq. (Laurel) of Chicago, IL.   She was predeceased by her husband of 57 years, John W. Baffa.

A small and informal memorial inurnment service will be held in late January at Beaufort National Cemetery, where Mary Katherine’s remains will be placed with those of her husband, John.  The family plans a later gathering to honor Mary Katherine’s memory as well.
