Mary Neal Dunaway

With great sadness, we announce the passing of Mary Neal Dunaway, 97, passed away peacefully at home on September 6, 2025, in Hardeeville, SC.

Born in Columbia, S.C. on April 9, 1928. Mary was the daughter of Margaret Chalk Neal and Stonewall Jackson Neal.

She worked for 31 years for S.C. State Tax Commission and was a member of First Baptist Church of Columbia S.C.

She moved to the Low Country in 2012. Previously, with her husband Charlie, they enjoyed long weekends and summer vacations in their condo in Hilton Head Island. Mary will be remembered for her wonderful spirit and beautiful smile. She loved animals, flowers, family and friends, and shopping.

She is survived by her son Charles (Bill) William Dunaway, Jr., daughter in law Monica E. Dunaway, step grandchildren Jack (Veronica), nephews and nieces Herb (Linda), Harry (Caryn) and Lowell Relkin. Mary is predeceased by her husband Charles William Dunaway, Sr., her parents, five brothers and one sister.

Mary’s ashes will rest with her beloved husband Charlie in Columbia, S.C.
