Mary Helen Mademann

With deep sadness, Mary Helen Mademann, age 91, passed away on July 22, 2023 in her sleep.  She was born on July 17, 1932 in Toronto, Canada where she lived and earned her RN Nursing degree.

During university, she met her future husband, Dr. Paul Mademann at a church dance.  After they both graduated with their degrees, they married on December 31, 1954 and then he brought her home to New York.  Together they built a wonderful life and successful practice.   They started their practice in Peekskill, New York then moved to the mountain top ski village in Windham, New York because they loved the healthy mountain air and living.  For their retirement years, they decided they had enough snow and cold weather, and moved to Bluffton, SC.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Dr. Paul Mademann and sons: Paul Mademann, Dr. David Mademann, and Stephen Mademann.  She now joins them in heaven.

She is survived by her daughter, Kathryn Mademann and her fiancé John Hove, grandson Chase Vaughan and granddaughter, Amanda Shipman, great granddaughters Jaylin and Khloe Shipman, son-in-law, Frank Bright, and special caregiver Roseann Massa.

Mary was loving, kind, and a wonderful cook.  She was adventurous, enjoyed traveling, playing sports: ski, golf, tennis, and liked entertaining friends and dancing the night away.

She will be remembered for her devotion to her children and family, very witty sense of humor, and loved to play bridge, hearts and all kind of card games.  With her winnings, she would put her quarters in a jar, and when she saved enough money, take her husband out to lunch.  Life is precious and they looked after each other’s hearts for 62 years.

She will be missed every day and, in our hearts, forever.

There is a Celebration of Life service at 10am on Friday, August 4, 2023 at Sauls Funeral Home in Bluffton.
