Mary (Ida Maria) Baretta

On Sunday August 9, 2020, Mary (Ida Maria) Baretta of Hilton Head Island, South Carolina passed away peacefully at the age of 88 years.

Mary is survived by her two loving sons John (Kayla) of Gig Harbor, Washington and Julian (Kim) of Hilton Head Island, South Carolina, as well as her three beloved grandchildren, Christopher, Allie and Jules. Mary is also survived by her two siblings who reside in Italy, Giovanni and Lina. She was preceded in death by her beloved husband, Joe (Giuseppe), her parents, Elisa and Vittorio, and her brother, Alessandro.

Mary fearlessly lived a life full of adventure, emigrating from Italy to Edmonton, Alberta at the age of 20. During her time in Canada, she helped her husband manage a family business and raised their two sons. She was always the biggest fan at each of her son’s hockey and soccer games. Mary spent the last four years of her life in Hilton Head Island, South Carolina where she enjoyed the outdoors and time spent with her family. Throughout her life she took many trips back to Italy to connect with her family and traveled to many other countries with her sons. All those fortunate enough to have shared a table with Mary will miss her love of cooking, storytelling, joyful laughter and fiercely loyal devotion to her family.

Mary will be laid to rest in Holy Cross Mausoleum in Edmonton, Alberta at a future date, to be followed by a memorial service.
