Mary Smith

Mrs. Mary Smith was born on September 30, 1941 to the late Clayton and Louise Devore in Pineland, SC. She entered into eternal rest on October 29, 2015 at the age of 74. Mary received her formal education through the Jasper County Public School System. After graduating she moved to New York City. On April 25, 1964, she married Rollo Smith, Sr. From their union came three children: Patricia, Rollo Jr., and Craig. Mary was employed in the New York City Public School System, where she served dutifully for 35 years before retiring in 2008.She was a dedicated member of Union DC37 where she served as shop steward. Mary enjoyed attending Union meetings and continued her attendance long after her retirement. Mary accepted Christ as her Savior at a young age at Gillison Branch Baptist Church in Pineland, SC. After moving to New York City, Mary became a member of Metropolitan and Bethel Baptist Churches where she served as a faithful member who truly loved the Lord. Mary enjoyed helping others and spending time with her grandchildren. Mary was preceded in death by her daughter, Patricia Smith; beloved sister, Miriam Devore and brother, Cephus Devore. She leaves to cherish her memory, her husband, Rollo Smith Sr.; two sons, Rollo Jr. (Debbie) and Craig (Lisa); sisters, Gladys Frazier, Barbara (Donnie) Stevenson and Priscilla Bryan; brothers, Badese Devore, John (Annie) Devore and Anthony (Juanita) Devore, five sisters in laws, 10 grandchildren, 3 great grandchildren; and a host of nieces, nephews, and loving relatives and friends. Funeral services will be held at 2:00 pm, Friday, November 6,2015 at Gillison Branch Baptist Church, Pineland, SC with burial in the church cemetery. Visitation will be from 6 til 8 pm, Thursday, November 5, 2015 at Sauls Funeral Home, 310 W. Adams St., Ridgeland, SC. Funeral services will be held at 2:00 pm, Friday, November 6,2015 at Gillison Branch Baptist Church, Pineland, SC with burial in the church cemetery. Visitation will be from 6 til 8 pm, Thursday, November 5, 2015 at Sauls Funeral Home, 310 W. Adams St., Ridgeland, SC.
