Mary Hiott Toomer Bailey

Mary Hiott Toomer Bailey, 94, of Bluffton, SC passed away Sunday, June 4, 2023 at Pines at Hilton Head.

Mary was born August 31, 1928 in Savannah, GA to the late Allen Dewey Hiott and Alma Smith Hiott. She was a graduate of Berry College in Rome, GA and later received her Masters of Education from the University of Georgia. She went on to teach in Rome, GA, Savannah, GA and Ridgeland, SC before retiring in Bluffton. She was a former member of First Baptist Church of Bluffton.  She is a member of Maye River Baptist Church.

Mary is survived by her grandsons, Jeff Toomer (Allyson) of Hilton Head Island, SC, Kemp Toomer (Christi) of Reidsville, GA, and Lamar “Skip” Toomer (Tina) of Bluffton, SC; great-grandchildren, Reilly Lancaster (Acton), Logan Toomer, Ansleigh Toomer, Tristan Toomer, Camden Toomer, Luke Toomer, and Jack Toomer; and great-great-grandchildren, Aurora Lancaster, Cal Lancaster, and Eloise Lancaster. She was preceded in death by her sons, Frank G. Toomer, Jr. of Bluffton, SC and Joseph N. Bailey of High Point, NC.

A graveside service will be held at 3:00 pm, Wednesday, June 7, 2023 at Maye River Baptist Church Cemetery, 3507 Okatie Highway, Bluffton.
