Mattie Lee Jackson Gaston

August 31, 1923 — January 19, 2014

Mattie Lee Gaston, daughter of the late Willie and Chare Lou Duboise Jackson, was born in Augusta, Georgia on August 31, 1923. Mattie was educated in the Savannah school system and worked at Hunter Air Force Base. She was a member of Tremont Temple Baptist Church, where she met and married Herman Gaston. From this union, one son was born, Donival Gaston. She later migrated to New York City where she lived for 50 plus years. Mattie Retired from Bankers Trust where she worked for many years. Mattie was a loving mother, grandmother, sister and friend. She enjoyed life and she was loved by many family and friends. She leaves to cherish her loving memories, her son, Donival Gaston; granddaughters, Adrienne Gaston of Bowie, MD; Shemmash Gaston of Jamaica, Queens, NY; great granddaughter, Jade Rouse; nieces, Linda McLemore and Sonya Hazel; nephew, Jimmy McLemore and a host of loving relatives and friends. She was preceded in death by her husband, Herman Gaston; brothers, Amps, Bo and sister, Rosa Lee. Funeral services will be held at 1:00 pm on Saturday, January 25, 2014 at St. Luke's Baptist Church in Okatie with burial in Low Bottom Cemetery. A viewing will be held at 12:00 noon until the hour of service at the church. Sauls Funeral Home of Ridgeland is assisting the family with their arrangements.
