Maureen Stevens Dunn

Maureen Stevens Dunn, age 80, of Hilton Head Island, South Carolina, passed away peacefully on August 16, 2025. She now joins her beloved husband of 55 years, John Smith Dunn, Jr., in eternal rest.

Born in Savannah, Georgia, Maureen lived a life devoted to her family, friends, her dogs and homeless animals. She was a retired attorney for the Legislative Counsel Bureau for the state of California, where she was admired for her intelligence, dedication, and professionalism. Beyond her distinguished career, Maureen was engaged in her community and creative pursuits. An avid sailor, quilter and knitter, she served as President of the Palmetto Quilters Guild, where she shared her artistry, leadership and love of the craft with many.

She was preceded in death by her husband, John Smith Dunn, Jr., and her parents, William D. and Isabel Jones Stevens.

Maureen is survived by her brothers and sisters-in-law, Stanley S. Dunn (Susan), William J. Stevens (Paula), and Michael Stevens (Tina). She is also survived by her niece, Pamela Daly (Christopher); her nephews, Allen Richardson Dunn (Dana) and Christopher Stevens; and her great nieces, Katie, Sarah, and Emily Daly, and Alexandra Dunn; along with cousins and dear friends.

A memorial service to honor Maureen’s life will be planned at a later date.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made in Maureen’s memory to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital or the Palmetto ASCPA/Humane Society reflecting her lifelong love of animals.

The Dunn family wishes to express its heartfelt gratitude for the loving care received from The Addison Memory Care & Assisted Living Home and to Agape Care Hospice.

Maureen’s love, wisdom, and creativity will live on in the hearts of her family and friends.
