Max L. Green, 77, of Bluffton passed away early Tuesday, April 02, 2013, at his home following a long and courageous battle with cancer.Born Feb. 11, 1936, in Wood River, Ill., to the late Harold and Lola Green, he was a 1954 graduate of Civic Memorial High School in Bethalto, Ill. Max served in the U.S. Air Force. While in the service stationed in England, he met his loving wife of 56 years, Yvonne, who survives. He graduated from Southern Illinois University in 1968.He was a longtime resident of Mansfield, Ohio, where he was employed with Therm-O-Disc, concluding his 25-year career as product manager.He moved to Hilton Head in 1996 after his retirement. He enjoyed playing golf and worked as a wine steward at Kroger, and starter and ranger at Old South Golf Course.Other survivors include three daughters and their spouses, Amanda and Paul Wayner, Deborah and Sam Renfroe, and Lisa and Robert Howell; 14 grandchildren; six great-grandchildren; a brother, David; a sister, Christina; nieces and nephews.In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a brother, Harold.The family will receive friends on Monday, April 8th from 4 p.m. to 6 p.m. with a celebration of life at 5 p.m. at Sauls Funeral Home, Bluffton.In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be directed to Jonathan Trent, MD, PhD, Sylvester Comprehensive Cancer Center, 1475 NW 12th Avenue, Suite 3513, Miami, FL 33136.
